Joseph Kean
Policy and Governance Lead (Volunteer)
I have worked in the alcohol and drugs sector for over 20 years working for and alongside national and local charities, statutory bodies and local authorities. My work has taken me all over the country, from Newcastle to Devon and most places in-between and I have work as Service Manager, Implementation Change Manager, Senior Public Health Specialist, CQC Registered Manager and many other roles during my career.
Alongside my main employment I am fortunate that my life and experience has provided an opportunity to become involved with a number of national and international research institutions – holding a number of honorary titles along the way. This has led to the co-authoring of a number of published papers in the field of substance use epidemiology, first publishing in 2009 with colleagues including Professor Harrison Pope from Harvard Medical School (one of the most highly cited psychiatrists of the 20th century) and other research colleagues from Australia, the Netherlands and of course, the UK.
My work has often been supporting populations that do not have equitable access to services and who may be adversely affected by health inequalities, often finding that barriers for support needed bold and innovative solutions and supporting the Awakening Rehab is a natural step to finding alternative solutions to very long-standing and well-established community issues.
I have also worked in the Health and Fitness Industry since the early 2000’s and have CYQ L3 Personal Trainer Certificate including Advanced Fitness Instruction and Nutrition. This has provided a better comprehensive understanding of overall health and well being needs and allowed me to develop, alongside other colleagues, detailed and affordable specialised health and fitness screening which includes full 41 bio-marker blood screening and bio-impedance body composition scanning – giving our patients and our attached clinicians the best ability to make informed decisions about the most appropriate and safe course of action for them.
I believe that Knowledge is Strength,, the more information you have, regardless of who you are, the better able you are to make an informed decision.
